The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the New Mogadishu International Airport, which is being established in the Warsheikh district of the Middle Shabelle region.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by members of both houses of the Somali Parliament, ministers led by the Minister of Commerce, the Governor of Banadir and Mayor of Mogadishu, H.E. Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), the President of the Hirshabelle State, H.E. Ali Gudlawe Hussein, the Director of Civil Aviation and Transport, and business leaders headed by the Chairman of the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Mahmoud Abdi Ali “Gabayre.”
The President stated that this project is vital for the country’s development and connectivity, particularly in terms of aviation and the enhancement of economic infrastructure. He noted that the airport will be a modern facility fully serving the Somali public and international flights to and from Somalia. The President emphasized that the project, which will be implemented by a Somali company, reflects the country’s recovery and the capability of the Somali people.
The Chairman of the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Gabayre, who was among the officials speaking at the event, affirmed that Somali entrepreneurs are ready to contribute to the construction of the New Mogadishu International Airport.
